Eugenio Costa ....Que maravilla

Así fue, época en que un crucero era un viaje de ensueños, sin prisas tiempo para disfrutar del mar, de la navegación, del barco y todo lo rerente a el tiempo en el que se cononocía a otros pasajeros y era placentera una simple conversación.
La tripulación entonces, no te miraba con el signo $$$$ en los ojos, o esa estupida mueca llamada "sonrisa" que encuentras en los cruceros, la cuál oculta el "cuanto me dará este gil

---

tas".
Los que tuvimos el honor de haber conocido y disfrutado de "aquellos" tiempos, nos es un tanto difícil ser imparcial hoy.
Efectivamente la diferecia ente la Linea C y Linea Costa es enorme,
como la que hubo entre Royal Caribbean Cruise Line y la RCIC o la Chandris y Celebrity Cruises.
Si alguien me llama "nostalgica" pués si lo soy y a mucha honra. Quién estuviese en un crucero en el año 2000 y hoy también se puede dar cuenta de como ha cambiado la Industria... ¡¡¡A PEOR!!!

La hermosa cubierta Promenade, después que la Premier Cruises, cubriera su suelo de maderas nobles con esta ridícula y hortera moqueta.

La importancia que tiene esta foto (no es el individuo), sino es el hermoso mural del Eugenio C. que engalana una de las paredes del restaurante Boticchelli, en el Costa Romántica.

Recuerdo aún un cruce de Ecuador y su fiesta espectacular a fines del año 1964, yo era muy pequeño y estaba haciendo la ruta Buenos Aires-Génova en la m/n Federico C con mis padres y mi hermana muy joven pero mucho mayor que yo, era elegida reina del Ecuador o del Mar, no recuerdo el título y en ese viaje conoció a su, más tarde, marido. Luego a la noche se realizó un coctel y baile donde yo representé y se presentó a travéz mío con un disfraz y galera en forma de chimenea amarilla con una gran C, al incipiente EUGENIO C que estaba siendo construido para reemplazar al Federico C en esa ruta.

It is a very sad story of a beautiful liner falling victim of financial disaster and fraud.
In December 1994 Eugenio Costa was sold to Bremer Vulcan, in part payment for the sister ship to Costa Victoria, which was to be called Costa Olympia. She was then chartered back and operated by Costa. In July 1996 however, Bremer Vulkan were found to be running their Bremen shipyard on illegal subsidies and money intended for the rebuilding of East German shipyards. They were made bankrupt and the Costa Olympia was cancelled. Costa continued to operate Eugenio Costa until November 1996, when she was laid-up in Genoa.
The ship was auctioned by the creditors of Bremer Vulcan and she was bought by a small British company, Lowland Shipping and began cruise operations as Edinburgh Castle. Unfortunately she was not well maintained and became increasingly unreliable, driving Lowland Shipping into bankruptcy.
The ship was again auctioned and was bought by a rapidly expanding British shiprepair group using the old shipbuilding name of Cammell Laird. There is not space to detail the many financial manipulations of this company, but in the case of Edinburgh Castle they carried out a useless refit on the ship, sold her to a Bermudan company, which Cammell Laird financed but claimed they did not own and pretended that she was suddenly worth three times the value they had paid for her in the auction.
The ship was chartered to Commodore Cruise Line as Big Red Boat II, but was delivered late to New York to begin operations. Commodore found that, except for a new coat of red paint, she was in very bad condition and delayed her entry into service by two weeks for emergency work to be carried out. Big Red Boat II broke down on almost every voyage and after six weeks she had driven Commodore into bankruptcy. Shortly afterwards Cammell Laird was declared bankrupt.
Big Red Boat II was laid up and offered for sale. No one was interested in her. The receiver could not accept that a ship valued at £36 million was only fit for scrap, so she remained in lay-up, looking for a buyer. When the decision was finally taken to sell her for scrap it was found that she was worth less than the cost of towing her to India.
Work was done to make her seaworthy and last year Big Red Boat II made her slow and difficult last voyage, calling at most ship repair yards between Bahamas and India for further emergency work

Hola milteo, con profunda tristeza he leído el articulo, no tenía conocimiento de lo ocurrido entre la venta del Eugenio C por la naviera italiana, hasta que le compró la Premier Cruises, es increible por todo lo que tuvo que pasar, al caer en manos de una pandilla de canallas sin escrúpulos, que lo llevaron a tan lamentable y triste final.
La última vez que yo navegué en el Eugenio C. fue el 10/8/2000. Cuando llegamos al muelle nº 83 de Nueva York, sentí una inmensa alegría, la misma que se siente cuando vuelves a ver al cabo de muchos años, a un amigo entrañable, aunque también me sentí muy triste al ver su hermoso casco pintado de rojo chillón, una vez dentro, aquella decoración espantosa propia para el gusto cafre y hortera. A pesar de todo esto, le ofrecí a mi marido, un gran tour muy completo, haciendo referencia a "mira aquí era esto y allí estaba esto", pero aún detrás de ese pobre disfráz al que le habían sometido, se encontra el hermoso, el gran Eugenio C. cargado de recuerdos que nadie jamás nos los podrá arrebatar.

La última vez que yo navegué en el Eugenio C. fue el 10/8/2000.
